In partnership with the city of Las Vegas, U.S. company EnGoPlanet has deployed a network of smart street lights powered by solar energy and footsteps. The set-up is simple: footstep pads built into the pavement capture kinetic energy produced by pedestrian traffic. The energy stored during the day is used at night to power street lights, Wi-Fi hotspots, and security cameras. You can also recharge your smart phone by plugging it into the sockets on the city’s lamp posts.
