Renewable energies: a map of 1,400 technology centres in Europe
Reading time: 1 min
The European Union’s 2050 carbon neutrality target is based in large part on the clean and renewable energy industries (CREI). A recent European Commission report shows that the development of innovative products and services in this sector is highly dependent on access to cutting-edge technological infrastructure, such as test platforms and specialist laboratories, to assess the feasibility of innovations and reduce time to market. The study identifies and maps 1,400 of these technology centres, around which are clustered many of the 16,000 companies in the renewable energy sector. It also highlights the existence of major hubs in certain metropolitan areas of Germany, Italy, Spain, France and Sweden.
